Examing one artist’s work
This week I’m offering you 2 possible essay subjects. Hopefully, one will pique your interest, or touch on a subject familiar to you. The best essays will be ones that are complete with both information and personal reflection. Be concise so that you can tell us more in fewer words. If your topic requires support materials to clarify your statements, such as web pages, include the links that will establish or amplify the points you make. This doesn’t mean that you don’t have to read or research. It means that unless you’re citing external sources, you’re not required to identify supplementary materials.
ALWAYS INCLUDE LINKS – OR INCLUDE ACTUAL IMAGES TO ART WORKS THAT YOU REFER TO OR DISCUSS.
Choose one of the 2 topics listed below:
1. The Romantic painter Eugene Delacroix was a renowned colorist. Visit the Delacroix site listed on the Activities page, and select two works.
Discuss and describe his use of color, composition, and subject matter. In what way do those works exemplify Romanticism?
2. Rosa Bonheur is regarded as one of the great women artists. What early life events would shape her career to help her succeed as an artist?
